From Fear to Fury: The Heartbreaking Story of a Former Pet Dog Turned Biting Dog – Can We Save Him and Achieve a “Zero Culling” Japan
At the request of Hiroshima Prefecture, Peace Wanko has been regularly withdrawing rescue dogs scheduled for euthanasia from animal welfare centers in the prefecture for over eight years. Small dogs and purebred dogs that are easy to adopt are brought in by other organizations and individuals, so Peace Wanko takes care of stray dogs that take time to adopt, as well as dogs that are sick, injured, or bitten. We protect dogs that have problems such as these and have nowhere else to go.
On September 10th, the day we adopted a toy poodle, we were asked to rescue a toy poodle by the staff of the animal welfare center.

I’m going to pick up a toy poodle, a “biting dog,” that I’ve been asked to rescue.
The child, who was not adopted by any organization, was a “biting dog” who would bite if you reached out and tried to touch him through the cage, even though you could touch him through the cage. The dog had a microchip, so when we investigated it, we found out that the original owner had already passed away.
Peace Wanko Project leader Makoto Abe, who reached out from above the cage, remained unfazed no matter how many bites he received, and continued to gently say, “It’s okay. I’m not scared.”

They bite because they are afraid of people. Even if I get bitten, I will continue to speak kindly to you.
“I don’t bite because I’m scared. Even humans would be scared if they met a big man like this for the first time and approached me.”
As Abe speaks, he puts a leash on a toy poodle that no one else has touched, takes it out of its cage, lets it walk around the animal welfare center, and picks it up. She must have been afraid to be held, as she was trembling and frightened in Abe’s arms.

“I guess he wasn’t touched at all. It’s a long way away. To be honest, it must have been an abusive environment. He has a habit of biting, so I’ll take care of him as much as possible to avoid trauma, and from now on I’ll love humans.” I would like you to become one.”

I was shaking so much I was afraid to be held.
Most of the dogs that enter animal welfare centers in Hiroshima Prefecture are stray dogs, but there are also dogs like this one who were originally kept by people but were abandoned for some reason. Any dog can come to the welfare center.
The owner suddenly passes away, and before you know it, you find yourself in a cage and being slaughtered. We must ensure that such events never occur. There has to be a place where dogs can be saved from now on.

A new dog life has begun with the name “Asahi”!
The toy poodle, who was called a “biting dog” and had nowhere else to go, was taken in by Peace Wanko’s Jinseki Kogen Shelter and named “Asahi.” “Asahi” is 5 years and 3 months old, and he is still in the early stages of becoming a dog. Even dogs like Asahi who have nowhere else to go are brought home to Peace Wanko, where they are treated with love and affection so that they will come to like people. We will continue our activities so that no child can live a happy second life without giving up on their life. Please take a look at the video to see what Asahi is like.
