A 64-year-old woman in Thailand was rescued after being wrapped around her body by a massive python for nearly two hours. According to reports from the Bangkok Post and other sources, Arom Arunrot, who lives in Samut Prakan Province south of Bangkok, felt something bite her leg while washing dishes in the kitchen at around 8:30 p.m. on the 17th.
When she looked down, it was a python. Alone, Arom struggled and screamed to get the python off, but there was no one nearby to help her. Before she knew it, the snake had wrapped itself around Arom’s body. Arom tried to escape by grabbing the snake’s head and striking it, but the more she tried, the more the snake squeezed Arom’s body.
For two hours, she suffered with the snake wrapped around her body, unable to move. It was not until around 10 p.m. that a neighbor heard Arom’s desperate cries and reported it to the police. “When I broke down the door and went in, I heard her groaning in pain. Her skin was pale. It looked like she had been wrapped around the python for quite some time. It was a huge python. There was a bite mark on her leg, but I thought she had been bitten in other parts of her body as well,” recalled Anuson Wangmali, a police officer who responded to the scene.
The rescue team arrived at the scene and first stabbed the python to induce a reaction, and then carefully controlled the snake’s head to make its body loosen up from wrapping around the person. The rescue operation took about 30 minutes, as the python was quite long and heavy. During this process, the snake was quickly handled to prevent further injury to Arom.
The rescue team helped Arom regain her breathing by untangling the python from the head. After being released from the python, Arom was rushed to the hospital. Arom’s terrifying experience highlights the importance of being aware of one’s surroundings and taking necessary precautions when dealing with wild animals.
How to Escape from a Python’s Grip
If a large snake like a python wraps around you, how can you escape? The snake will tighten its grip more strongly depending on the resistance of your body, so if you breathe deeply or move your body excessively, the pressure will be even worse. You should try to stay calm and control your breathing as much as possible.
If a snake tries to wrap itself around you, grab the snake’s head or tail to make it release itself. It is most effective to control the snake’s head so that it cannot move freely. As mentioned earlier, pythons are not venomous, but there is a risk of infection if they bite, so it is best to cover their mouth to prevent them from biting. Cover the snake’s mouth with a towel or clothing.
However, if you are actually bitten by a snake, it can be difficult to free yourself. It is essential to ask someone nearby for help as soon as possible. Pythons do not naturally inhabit our country. They are a species that mainly inhabits tropical and subtropical regions such as Southeast Asia, Africa, and South Asia, and the domestic climate is not suitable for pythons.
