Taiwan Railway Eastern Main Line Reopens After Landslide Disruption
(Central News Agency reporter Yu Xiaohan, Taipei, 9th) Affected by landslides, the Chongde-Heren section of the Taiwan Railway Eastern Main Line was flooded by a landslide yesterday. Taiwan Railways said this morning that after overnight repairs, it will reopen at 6 a.m. today when trains run on this section. It will slow down and run at 30 km/h when passing through.
Sudden heavy rain yesterday afternoon flooded the 164.5K Chongde section of Provincial Highway 9 of Suhua Highway with mud and rocks, which flowed over the highway and flooded the Taiwan Railway’s Eastern Main Line from Chongde to Herren.
Taiwan Railways issued a press release today that tracks, tram lines and signal equipment between Chongde and Ren were normal after emergency repairs and trial operation tests that were scheduled to open to traffic at 8 a.m. today and resume at 6 a.m. Earlier in the morning, 203 normal trains, one-way and two-way operations on the Dongzheng Line, starting from Yuma, will resume.
Taiwan Railways noted that the section between Chongde and Heren will continue to repair and strengthen route monitoring. During this time, trains passing through this section will slow down and run at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour to ensure safety.
Taiwan Railways said that before 12pm tonight, station tickets for the Huabei Expressway (EMU3000) on the Xinjikiang Line will be fully open, but passengers will still need to purchase current train tickets.
Taiwan Railway explained that due to the route interruption between Herren and Chongde, passengers can return their unused tickets to each station within 1 year from the boarding date, if the ticket is recovered on the route after the interrupted segment; If you apply for a refund before the train opens, there is no handling fee.
