Actor Fumiya Takahashi (23) recently appeared on Nippon Television’s “Gyoretsu no Dekiru Soudanjo” (Sundays 9:00 p.m.) to seek advice from a panel of top lawyers. The episode, titled “Reiwa Legal Consultation SP,” featured lawyers Haruo Kitamura, Toru Hashimoto, and Yukio Kikuchi, as well as Yuko Sumita, who made her first appearance in 13 years.
Takahashi shared a personal concern with the lawyers, explaining that he often pays the bill when dining with friends, only to have them forget to reimburse him later. In one instance, he lent a friend money six years ago, during his senior year of high school, and has yet to be repaid.
Takahashi asked the lawyers if the money he lent to his friend was now time-barred. Lawyer Toru Hashimoto responded, “There is a statute of limitations. It’s five years.” However, he noted that the law was revised in 2020 to a five-year statute of limitations, and that money lent before 2020 had a 10-year statute of limitations.
Hashimoto explained that since Takahashi lent the money in 2018, the previous 10-year statute of limitations applied, and he could still recover the debt. Takahashi then made a heartfelt appeal to the camera, “Please give it back!”
