The farm in Kenmare, County Kerry, remains a sealed crime scene as the investigation into the death of Michael “Mike” Gaine continues. Gardaí confirmed that human tissue discovered on Gaine’s property was positively identified as the 56-year-old sheep farmer, who went missing March 20.
Initially treated as a missing person case, the investigation shifted focus three weeks ago when authorities announced they believed Gaine was dead and reclassified the case as a homicide. The remains were found nine days after a family friend spread slurry on fields at Gaine’s farm.
The Garda Technical Bureau, along with local search teams and the Defense Forces, have been conducting forensic examinations of the farmyard and surrounding fields.
A man in his 50s, arrested on suspicion of murder, was later released without being charged.He denies any involvement in Gaine’s disappearance.
