Galaxy Fit 3: The Smart Band That Keeps Selling Out

It sold out as soon as it came out, and when it was restocked, it sold out again … .

The Galaxy Fit 3, a smart band released by Samsung Electronics this month, continues to sell out. This is a new smart band that came out 4 years after the Galaxy Fit 2.

A 45% larger screen compared to the previous model, a more luxurious aluminum body, and useful functions such as exercise and sleep tracking… This product has all the popular elements. Expectations were high even before the release, and it sold out on the day of release. Although he was restocked for the first and second rounds on the 8th and 15th, he’s a very scary guy who even crashed on the Samsung.com website. In this Hyungtech video, I will honestly explain what I felt after using the Galaxy Fit3 for over a week.

◇ The appearance is similar to a watch, there is a reason it is sold out

The components are simple. Only two things are included: a watch and a charger. It consists of three colors: gray, silver, and rose gold.

Looking at the outside, it is cooler than the previous generation smart band. A 40mm OLED display was adopted, which is 45% larger than the previous model. Of course, it doesn’t feel like you’re looking at a smartphone screen. Since the resolution is not high, it feels a bit grainy.

The Galaxy Fit3 has a 40mm display. It was definitely easy to use because a lot of information was presented. However, the size of the uneven border (bevel) was a problem. /Chosun Ilbo YouTube ‘Hyeong Tech’.

The Galaxy Fit3 adopts an aluminum body. I think what differentiates a smart band from a smart watch is the feel of the material. Smart bands are only made from plastic materials. As a result, it is comfortable to wear and has a sporty attitude, but when I tried to pair it with everyday clothes, it felt a bit formal. He had this disadvantage. But this Galaxy Fit 3 looks like a real smartwatch. It goes well with everything: formal, casual, or sporty.

As it is for exercise purposes, the specifications are appropriate. It can withstand up to 5 atmospheres of water pressure while swimming and has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. It also weighs 18.5g, making it very light. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable while exercising, and although it has a 40mm screen, it’s not as wide as the Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch. As a result, it was nice that there was no discomfort when doing sports that involved a lot of use of the wrist. Since the contact area is small, less sweating is a bonus.

◇ Added fall detection function…Sleep check is also excellent

Among the new features introduced this time, the one that stands out is the fall detection function. It automatically reports when you fall from a high place or are in distress on a mountain. I really think this is a necessary feature for older people. In fact, I rolled over in my chair a few times to prove it. But it didn’t work. When I checked with Samsung Electronics, they responded that “the acceleration sensor, barometric pressure sensor, gyro sensor, and heart rate sensor installed in the device are all in use.” I think it probably works when your heart rate slows due to distress, or when you collapse from a more severe shock.

The sleep check function is also excellent. It is measured in conjunction with the Samsung Health app on Galaxy smartphones. In fact, in order to use a smartwatch to measure sleep, you had to wear it all night. However, if you wear a watch that lasts two days at most and sleep with it at night, when are you going to charge it? And there are quite a few people who can’t wear watches when they sleep because their wrists feel stuffy.

However, this Fit 3 can be used for 5 to 6 days on a single charge. According to Samsung’s official specifications, it can be worn for 13 days, but with different settings, the battery capacity is less than a week. As a result, you can wear it comfortably while sleeping without any problems. It’s slim so it doesn’t bother me.

◇ Text KakaoTalk only allows for simple replies, and it’s a shame there’s no GPS.

Of course, there were many disadvantages. You can read KakaoTalk or text messages, but you can’t reply other than some phrases (yes, hello, like, etc.). Simple payment doesn’t work like this. The vibration doesn’t feel as luxurious compared to a watch. There is no GPS function, so people who hike or follow running courses may not be satisfied.

After using the Galaxy Fit3 for a week, I began to understand why it was sold out. Until now, smart bands were cheap, used for light exercise, and for checking vitals. However, it was burdensome to pay 200,000 to 300,000 won for a smartwatch just to use it as a watch. I would like to conclude that this Galaxy Fit3 is a product that has narrowed the gap with the watch by raising the level of smart bands.
