Game Developer Toby Fox Announces DELTARUNE Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 to be Released Together

Game developer Toby Fox announced in his latest email newsletter on October 31 that the highly anticipated “DELTA RUN” Chapter 3 is nearly complete, and there have been changes to the original plan. It was revealed that Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 will be released together, much to the delight of fans. Additionally, Toby Fox shared a message on the game’s website, stating that an interview article with the development team behind “DELTARUNE” Chapter 2 will be published.

“DELTARUNE” is an RPG created by Toby Fox, known for his work on the critically acclaimed game “Undertale” released in 2015. The second installment of “DELTARUNE” follows the protagonist Chris, a human child believed to be Toriel’s adopted son. The game takes players on an adventure, traversing between the real world and the dark realm as Chris makes his way to school.

While “Undertale” was known for its adorable visuals, meta elements, negotiation mechanics similar to the “Megami Tensei” series, and bullet dodging gameplay reminiscent of bullet hell games, “DELTARUNE” builds on these foundations with new systems to create a darker atmosphere.

In the recent newsletter, Toby Fox stated that Chapter 3 is nearing completion, and it seems that Chapter 4 can be developed without the same level of trial and error experienced in Chapter 3’s development. He also mentioned that Chapter 4 is already in progress, with significant progress made in cutscenes and enemy design. To ensure smoother development in the future, a select producer has joined the team.

Regarding the release plan, the initial intention was to release three consecutive episodes from Episode 3 to Episode 5 altogether. However, Episode 5 may be completed at a later date. Therefore, once Chapter 4 is finished, “DELTARUNE” will be offered for purchase.

In an accompanying interview, four members of the development team responsible for Episode 2 shared behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the production. Notably, Toby Fox’s humorous approach of verbally explaining the episode’s story to the team instead of using written text showcased the dynamics and atmosphere within the development team.
