Game On: Porto Alegre Hosts Thrilling 38th Bordaza Shopping Seniors International Competition with 17 Action-Packed Matches
The competition will begin at 9am and will be played in the more experienced categories of 75, 70, 65, 60, 55 and 50. Paulo Andre is scheduled to make his debut on Wednesday.
The 38th Bordaza Shopping Senior International Tennis Championship, one of the biggest tournaments in Brazil, opens at 9am on Monday at the Associasa Leopoldina Juvenil in Porto Alegre. This competition is sponsored by Bordaza Shopping and co-sponsored by Claro.
The tournament features experienced players in the 75-year-old category, with Jean Tramontin, who turned 78 in October, taking on Adalberto Spadini. And in the 55-year-old category, local player Eurico Carvaijo will play after 1.30pm against Moab RodrĂguez. In the 60-year-old women’s category, Japan’s Kiyoko Seki will take on Brazil’s Jaquin Kompinski at 2:30 p.m. In the men’s 65-year-old category, Ecuador’s Hernan Lecer will meet Brazil’s Gil Gihuerme de Freitas at 1:30 p.m.
The younger division starts on Tuesday, with the men’s 40s event taking place on Wednesday. Paulo Andre Verini, who played for Corinthians and AtlĂ©tico Paranaense, is set to make his debut on Wednesday against Brazil’s Cacio Dagoberto de Sousa. Casio, currently ranked 85th in the world, is a finalist in this season’s MT 400 tournament held in Sao Paulo. In their last meeting, Casio won a hard-fought match 7-5, 7-6.
In this tournament, Malsero Masiel and other top 10 players will compete for the No. 1 spot in doubles. Gabriel Gerhard is looking to rebound from fifth place in Sao Paulo, while former world No. 1 Adelmo Evangelista returns to the competition at age 40. He was once called the Roger Federer of seniors and uses the AF logo to represent Adelmo Federer.
Carlos Oliveira, currently ranked second in the world in the 45-year-old division, is seeking a third successive title in the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and is pursuing world number one. He won two titles this season, 200 points behind Spain’s Roberto Perre. In the 35-year-old category, Minas Gerais’ Felipe Paiva maintains his position as world No. 1 in doubles and is also targeting the singles title. Colombia’s Carlos Behar is one to watch in the 65-year-old category as he seeks his seventh title in Porto Alegre on Tuesday against either Uruguay’s Jose Isaza or Brazil’s Eduardo Peixotto.
Athletes from 13 countries (Brazil, Argentina, Jordan, Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Japan, Mexico, India, Colombia, Ecuador, Austria, and France) will participate in this competition, which will run until Saturday the 9th.
