GameCube Switch 2 Widescreen Guide
Soulcalibur 2 and F-Zero GX Offer Widescreen on Nintendo Switch 2
Updated June 10, 2025
Two GameCube classics available on nintendo Switch 2, Soulcalibur 2 and F-ZERO GX, boast 16:9 widescreen support, a feature not universally available for retro titles on the platform. This enhancement provides a more immersive experience compared to the 4:3 aspect ratio with borders seen in other classic games.
Players can easily toggle widescreen mode within the settings of each game. A notification at the bottom of the game details summary indicates which titles support the 16:9 display. However, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker does not appear to offer this feature on Switch 2.
The widescreen option is configured on a per-game basis, not as a system-wide setting. to activate it in Soulcalibur 2, navigate to Options > Display Settings > Screen Ratio. For F-ZERO GX, the setting is located under Options > Screen Mode. activating a quick save state will preserve the setting.
The revelation of these settings was prompted by a user named ‘lucasbenboss’ on Threads, who pointed it out after a clip of Soulcalibur 2 in 4:3 aspect ratio was shared.

What’s next
While full widescreen support for all retro games remains a wish, customizable borders for Nintendo Classics could improve the visual experience. Many hope to see more GameCube games added to Nintendo Classics for Switch 2.
