Xbox Game Pass subscribers will see four titles removed from the service on February 28, 2026. The departing games represent a mix of genres, from action RPGs to deck-building roguelikes, and include some relatively high-profile titles. Microsoft is simultaneously adding new content, including High on Life 2, which arrived last week, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, slated for release in the coming days.

The games leaving Xbox Game Pass are: Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game, Injustice 2, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, and Monster Train. All four titles are available on Console, PC, and Cloud platforms.

Injustice 2, a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios, is arguably the most prominent departure. Released in 2017, the game features a robust roster of DC Comics characters and a compelling story mode. While the Xbox Game Pass library offers other fighting games, subscribers who haven’t completed Injustice 2’s campaign may want to do so before it’s removed.

Monster Train, a single-player deck-building roguelike, is also leaving the service. Fortunately for fans of the genre, its sequel, Monster Train 2, remains available on Xbox Game Pass, offering a continuation of the strategic gameplay. The original Monster Train distinguished itself with a unique vertical map and challenging gameplay loops.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War, the 2017 sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, provides an open-world action RPG experience set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe. The game’s Nemesis System, which allows enemies to remember and adapt to player actions, remains a standout feature. Subscribers have roughly three weeks to complete the game’s main story, which can take around 40 hours without side quests.

Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game, a more recent addition, offers a simulation experience focused on off-road driving and resource management. It’s a spin-off of the popular Mudrunner franchise, offering a different pace and challenge compared to the other departing titles.

As is standard practice, Microsoft is offering discounts of up to 20% on all four games for subscribers who wish to purchase them and add them to their permanent digital libraries. This allows players to retain access to the titles even after they leave the Game Pass rotation.

The departures come alongside a broader influx of new content to Xbox Game Pass. February 17, 2026, will see the arrival of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Avowed (for Game Pass Premium subscribers). Death Howl is scheduled for February 19, 2026, while Planet of Lana 2, Replaced, and Nova Roma are slated for release on March 5, 2026, March 12, 2026, and March 26, 2026, respectively. Further additions are expected throughout March, with Forza Horizon 6 planned for release on May 19, 2026.

The cyclical nature of Xbox Game Pass – adding and removing titles – is a core component of the service’s value proposition. While the removal of popular games like Injustice 2 may be disappointing for some subscribers, the constant stream of new content and the availability of discounts encourage exploration and provide ongoing value.
