Gary Sinise, the 69-year-old Academy Award nominee, recently discussed his reasons for leaving Hollywood. In an interview with Fox News Digital, he shared that he moved from California to Tennessee in 2021. This decision followed the cancer diagnoses of his wife and son, which occurred in quick succession.

Sinise explained that he wanted to be close to his family during this challenging time. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, while his son, McCanna “Mac” Sinise, faced a rare spinal cancer called chordoma. Sinise had not taken on significant acting roles for the two years leading up to their move, stating that he wanted to avoid being away from his family while they struggled with serious illnesses.

Additionally, during this period, Sinise’s father suffered a stroke, leaving his mother in need of extra care, which added to the family’s burdens. Sinise said, “I kind of had my hands full.”

Sinise and his family relocated to Tennessee not only for personal reasons but also due to the state’s lack of income tax, and to keep his music band, Lt. Dan Band, together in Nashville.

His wife’s cancer eventually went into remission, but sadly, Mac’s health deteriorated over the years. Mac, who was only 33, passed away in February after a long battle with cancer. Sinise reflected on the effort required to find treatments and care for his son during this time.

Despite the grief of losing Mac, Sinise shared that he found joy in Mac’s final project— a posthumous album titled Resurrection & Revival. They recorded several pieces of music together, despite Mac’s worsening condition.

In November, a sequel album, Resurrection & Revival: Part II, was released, which features previously undiscovered compositions by Mac. Sinise expressed how moved he was by the music, stating it represented a deep love and connection to his son.

Both albums serve as a tribute to Mac’s talent and creativity, allowing Sinise to cherish their shared moments through music.
