I wasn’t too upset (after the first set),” Gauff stated in a post-match interview. “I was able to raise my level and I’m happy with how I stayed mentally calm through that.”
The third seed broke Baptiste in the sixth game of the deciding set and then served out the match to secure her progression in the tournament.
Next Opponent: Karolina Muchova

She responded to a comment perceived as overly supportive of her and dismissive of Baptiste, emphasizing the high level of competition among all players. “Hailey’s a great competitor, so to the guy who made that comment, we’re all doing our best out here…. Let’s all be respectful,” she said, receiving applause from the audience.
