Gaza Death Toll: 3 Palestinians Killed in Latest Israeli Fire – February 22, 2026 Update

– Health authorities in the Gaza Strip reported today the deaths of three Palestinians and injuries to three others with varying degrees of severity as a result of gunfire from Israeli forces over the past 24 hours.

According to a daily statistical report on casualties from the Israeli offensive on Gaza, the total number of fatalities since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement on October 11th has risen to 614, with 1643 injuries. The report also indicates the retrieval of 726 bodies.

The cumulative toll of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip since October 7th, 2023, has reached 72,072 fatalities and 171,741 injuries, the report stated.

Separately, Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement continued, resulting in the death of a Palestinian woman by gunfire from Israeli forces near the Beit Lahiya square in northern Gaza.

Eyewitnesses reported to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Israeli mechanisms targeted areas in northern Gaza and east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp, and also opened heavy fire east of the Al-Zaytoun and Al-Shuja’iya neighborhoods.

The reported incidents underscore the fragility of the current ceasefire and the ongoing tensions in the region, despite the agreement reached months prior. The escalating violence raises concerns about the potential for a renewed escalation of conflict.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with a significant portion of the population displaced and reliant on humanitarian aid. The ongoing violence further exacerbates the already critical humanitarian situation, hindering efforts to provide essential services and support to those affected.

Recent data from February 9th, 2026, indicates a continuing pattern of displacement in the West Bank, with nearly 700 Palestinians displaced due to settler attacks so far this year, including 600 from the Ras Ein Al Auja Bedouin community in the Jericho governorate. This displacement is occurring alongside increased Israeli military operations expanding beyond the northern West Bank into central and southern governorates.

The broader context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is marked by decades of intermittent violence and stalled peace negotiations. The current ceasefire, while providing a temporary respite from large-scale fighting, has not addressed the underlying issues driving the conflict.

According to a Wikipedia report updated February 10th, 2026, at least 75,196 people have been reported killed in the Gaza war, including 73,158 Palestinians and 2,038 Israelis. The report notes that approximately 80% of Palestinians killed are estimated to be civilians. The Gaza Health Ministry (GHM) does not distinguish how Palestinians were killed, attributing all casualties to “Israeli aggression.”

The GHM’s casualty count is also noted to potentially exclude deaths resulting from lack of adequate treatment, disease, and other impacts of the war, with projections indicating thousands of excess deaths from these factors.

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution in mid-November authorizing the establishment of a temporary International Stabilisation Force in Gaza under a “Board of Peace” framework following the start of the truce. However, the ceasefire has stalled beyond its initial phase, with limited progress on next steps.

The situation in Gaza continues to be a major international concern, with calls for a lasting ceasefire and a renewed commitment to peace negotiations. The international community faces the challenge of addressing the immediate humanitarian needs of the population while also working towards a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

On February 15th, 2026, Al Jazeera reported that Israeli forces killed at least 11 Palestinians in Gaza in the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry. This recent escalation in violence further complicates efforts to maintain the ceasefire and underscores the volatile security situation in the region.

The reported incidents of Israeli fire in Gaza, resulting in multiple Palestinian fatalities, highlight the ongoing tensions and the risk of a return to full-scale conflict. The international community’s response to these developments will be crucial in determining the future trajectory of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
