Gaza: Israeli citizens block aid deliveries

Read video transcript

Barbed wire and tents block this border crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip. The blockade was set up by Israeli demonstrators. They want to prevent trucks carrying aid supplies from reaching Gaza.

“Until this war is over, there is no reason for us to give them any help.”
“We don’t want the trucks to come through here and bring aid to Gaza. It all goes to Hamas.”

There had already been reports in the past that the terrorist organization Hamas was withholding aid supplies that were intended for the population of the Gaza Strip. The financial aid and donations in kind would be used to finance Hamas’ terrorism. The demonstrators at the border crossing share this view and react with incomprehension to the continuation of aid deliveries.

“I don’t understand why a country at war sends aid to the enemy and keeps the war alive. Every truck that crosses the border means another day of war for both sides.”

The Israeli military declared the border crossing a restricted zone after a similar blockade had taken place in the past. The demonstrators still want to remain on site.
According to their own information, around 120 people held the fort overnight in tents. The aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip are intended to help contain the humanitarian catastrophe there. Because of the war, countless people lost their homes and their livelihoods.
