US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz about a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and more humor for Palestinian residents. Ukrinform reports this.

“Secretary Blinken and Secretary Gantz discussed efforts to reach an agreement on a six-week ceasefire that would secure the release of all hostages and help alleviate suffering for the Palestinian people,” Miller said.

The State Department representative also drew attention to the position voiced by the US Secretary of State that the possibility of an immediate ceasefire depends on Hamas militants.

According to him, negotiations on a temporary truce and the release of all hostages are ongoing, and the American side continues to make efforts to reach a peace agreement

He also added that the United States continues to support Israel’s right to prevent a repeat of the terrorist attacks that occurred on October 7. At the same time, the United States considers it necessary for Israel to ensure the delivery of more humanitarian aid to Gaza and improve the distribution of this aid within the region.
