Gboard’s New Emoji, GIF & Sticker Picker Rolls Out to Android Users
Updated June 10, 2025
The Gboard app for Android is rolling out a redesigned Emoji, GIF, and Sticker picker to stable users following a period of beta testing. The primary change involves the bottom navigation, where “ABC” is now in a pill shape, and Emoji, GIF, Sticker, and Emoticon options are housed in rounded rectangles.
The containers for these options may be too wide to fit on a single screen, perhaps requiring scrolling. A floating action button (FAB) now appears when text is entered, replacing the delete button. This FAB somewhat obscures what is underneath.
While the contents of each picker remain largely unchanged, the top row has been modified to remove the header between the back and search functions. This allows for more expressive categories to be displayed.
google has also removed the “All” page, which previously combined recent emoji,Emoji Kitchen creations, and gifs. The redesign is also present on Android tablets.
The updated Emoji, GIF, and Sticker picker is rolling out via a server-side update to the latest stable release of Gboard, version 15.3.
