Gmail Automates Gemini AI Summaries for Workspace Users

Google is integrating its artificial intelligence capabilities more deeply into Gmail by automating gemini’s email summarization feature. This enhancement, designed for Google workspace users on Android and iOS, simplifies the process of understanding lengthy email threads.
Gmail, which holds a significant share of the email client market, introduced ‘Gemini in the side panel’ last June, bringing a suite of AI features including email summarization, suggested replies, and draft assistance. Users can also ask Gemini questions about their emails and find specific details within their inbox.
The new automation eliminates the need to manually tap “Summarize this email.” Instead, eligible emails will automatically display a summary card within the email content. This summary dynamically updates as new replies are added to the thread, ensuring users always have the most current overview.
Currently available for English emails, the automated summarization feature is being rolled out to Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium subscribers. Full visibility of the feature is expected within 15 days.
