Stargazers Flock to Hehuan Mountain, Leading to Traffic Jams and Accidents
HEHUAN MOUNTAIN, Taiwan – The annual Geminid meteor shower drew massive crowds to Hehuan Mountain this week, leading to traffic congestion and several accidents.
Former weather director zheng Mingdian had predicted the best viewing time for the celestial event would be from the evening of December 13th to the early morning of December 14th, prompting a surge of visitors to the popular stargazing spot.
In response to the influx,the Nantou County Police Traffic police Team and Renai Branch deployed additional officers to manage traffic flow on Hehuan Mountain starting at 10 p.m. on December 13th.
“We directed traffic at Hehuan Villa and Hehuan Mountain, xiaofengku parking lot, and also sent extra patrols to remove illegally parked vehicles,” a police spokesperson said.
despite the efforts,parking lots like Wuling,Kunyang,and Hehuan Villa reached capacity by early morning,with some visitors resorting to illegal parking. Police reported eight illegal parking cases and three accidents related to the heavy traffic.
The Geminid meteor shower, known for its vibrant streaks of light, is one of the most anticipated celestial events of the year.
