Gen Z, born between 1995 and 2012, isn’t just using Artificial Intelligence at work – they’re actively teaching their older colleagues how to leverage it too, according to a recent poll by International Workplace group.
The Rise of Gen Z as AI Mentors
The survey, conducted by workspace solutions company International Workplace Group, revealed that nearly two-thirds of Gen Z respondents are taking the initiative to educate their older workplace peers on AI tools and techniques. This support isn’t limited to simple demonstrations; it encompasses hands-on guidance and sharing practical tips for integrating AI into daily workflows.
“This support often takes different forms, from hands-on guidance to sharing practical tips to integrate AI into daily workflows,” international Workplace Group CEO Mark Dixon told CNBC.
AI as a Generational Bridge
The poll, which surveyed over 2,000 individuals in the U.S. and the U.K., found that almost half of respondents believe AI is bridging generational gaps and fostering collaboration. Older workers are demonstrating a surprising openness to AI, actively learning from their younger counterparts. Dixon emphasized the “reciprocity” of this dynamic.
Younger generations are leveraging their AI skills to “guide” others and “introduce new ways of working,” while older generations contribute their experience and industry knowledge to help Gen Z utilize the technology more effectively. This creates a mutually beneficial learning habitat.
“In today’s digital-first era,AI is emerging as a powerful unifier across generations,” Dixon told CNBC.
