his early​ success⁤ culminated in an Olympic gold medal at‌ the 1968 ‌Mexico
City Games. In 1973,​ he achieved ‍his first world heavyweight title,
⁤ ⁣ defeating Joe Frazier, who was then considered unbeatable.

Following a⁤ celebrated bout in Zaire, he embraced religion‍ and ⁤became a
⁢ church minister in Texas, establishing a community and preaching in the
⁤ ​ streets. He initially⁣ retired in 1977 but made a comeback a decade later.
