ICE Raid Protest draws Crowd in Lawrenceville, Georgia
A large group of demonstrators converged in Lawrenceville, Ga., Saturday, voicing their opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and deportations. Many held signs proclaiming, “Full Rights For All Immigrants.” The protest highlighted the role of community activism in response to immigration policies.
The atlanta-based Party for Socialism and Liberation organized the event. According to their website, the group aims to counteract what they describe as a “far right assault” targeting immigrants, activists, and the working class. The job role of the institution is to advocate for social justice and equality.
Cristina Butler, one of the protesters, expressed her dismay.”It’s truly disheartening and frightening to witness this,” Butler said. “The harshness faced by families isn’t fair. So much of their situation hinges on aspects like appearance or timing. It’s unjust for them to endure such harsh treatment as someone has chosen to target the Latino community.”
Butler acknowledged that the protest might not immediately trigger meaningful change but emphasized its importance as part of a broader movement. she added, “I don’t think my little signs are going to save the day, but I do think it’s crucial for the government, for communities and for everybody to know that there are numbers and we are stronger together and will stand and protect immigrant families.” The role of individuals in collective action remains crucial, she said.
