The Las Vegas Raiders have signed linebacker Germaine Pratt, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, to a one-year, $4.25 million contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move aims to inject experience adn talent into their inside linebacker group.
Pratt’s arrival in Las Vegas follows his release from Cincinnati, where he spent his entire six-year NFL career. He played a meaningful role in the Bengals’ consecutive AFC North titles and their AFC Championship Game appearances in 2021 and 2022. Over his career, Pratt amassed 616 tackles, 23 pass breakups, 7 forced fumbles, and 7 interceptions across 96 games (88 starts).
In 2024, Pratt recorded a career-high 143 tackles, along wiht two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. His release freed up $5.9 million in cap space for the Bengals.
The Raiders have focused on overhauling their inside linebacker room this offseason, particularly after losing Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo. Other additions include veterans devin White, Elandon Roberts, and Jaylon Smith, as well as rookie Cody Lindenberg, drafted in the seventh round.
During recent team activities,Roberts and White have been the primary linebackers. The Raiders are banking on White’s versatility and Super Bowl experience to benefit the defense. Though, White’s performance has dipped as his Pro Bowl season in 2021. After a stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he had a brief and uneventful period with the Philadelphia Eagles before joining the Houston Texans, where he played seven games and recorded 19 tackles.
“[White’s] experience is a positive,” Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham said. ”I would say that his flexibility for the position; he’s played all over the field before, he’s been productive, both in the run [and] pass game, in different ways.”
The Raiders’ linebacker depth remains a concern, perhaps creating an opportunity for Pratt to secure a starting role.
What’s next
With training camp approaching, Pratt will compete for a starting role, aiming to solidify the Raiders’ defense and contribute his experience to the team’s success.
