Germany’s Hidden Heroes: The Unsung Bosnian and Herzegovinian Workers Behind the Country’s Success
German Construction Company Relies on Workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Mathias Regner, owner of Projektbau Matthias Regner GmbH, a German construction company, highlights the crucial role of workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina in his business’s success. With a team of 130 employees, 70 of whom are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Regner acknowledges the significant contribution they make.
Regner emphasizes that without the workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, his company would not be able to handle even half of their current workload. He began hiring workers from Eastern Europe seven years ago and later expanded his search to the Western Balkans.
Regner praises the workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, stating, “They are incredibly motivated and work hard. More than half of my team is from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they receive the same salaries and social benefits as their German colleagues. They perform their work professionally and with great enthusiasm.”
The workers typically spend three to four weeks on a construction site in Germany, followed by a week’s rest at home. This arrangement has proven successful for both the employer and the employees.
Regner notes that his company is still in need of new employees, particularly a manager who speaks fluent German and the mother tongue of the workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
While acknowledging that the construction sector can be challenging, Regner believes it is a profitable industry that should be more attractive to the younger generation.
