Germany’s Investment in Game Development: A Potential Gaming Powerhouse on the Rise

Article: Alex Hopley – Gamereactor.cnWhat you may not know is that the German government is currently investing a lot of money to incentivize game development in the country. At the German Computer Games Awards (Deutscher Computerspielpreis), German developers can also win cash prizes and trophies. Baldur’s Gate III took home the win (but no money) at the awards ceremony for best international game, prompting Michael Kellner, parliamentary state secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, to hope that German studios make a game like Larian’s Masterpiece.“As the federal government, we want to make an important contribution to this with our new funding for games. This funding will help ensure that games like this year’s top international games can also continue to be developed in Germany,” Kellner said (thanks to PCGamer). Gaming industries in the United Kingdom, France and elsewhere have grown thanks to federal funding programs. In time, perhaps we will also see Germany become a gaming powerhouse.
