Gerry Byrne Honored at Military & Veterans Entertainment Awards

Gerry Byrne, PMC vice chairman and a Marine Corps veteran, received the leadership in media honor at the inaugural Military & Veterans Entertainment Awards. The event, held May 24 at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly hills, recognized byrne’s decades-long commitment to bridging the gap between military communities and the entertainment industry. The Military & Veterans Entertainment Awards also recognized Traci Park for her work on veterans issues.
The National Entertainment Awards Academy for Military and Veterans selected the winners across more than a dozen categories. The organization also supports the Veterans Media advancement Scholarship initiative,which aids service members and veterans pursuing media and entertainment careers. The Military & Veterans entertainment Awards spotlighted the importance of veteran support in media.
Byrne, formerly a publisher of Variety, attributed his success to the support he received from Korean War veterans at the New York Daily News after his service in the Marines from 1966 to 1969, including two tours in Vietnam. These mentors took Byrne, a Vietnam veteran, under their wing and taught him the media business.
“I was part of their veterans’ family.I never forgot that,” Byrne saeid upon accepting his award.
Byrne also shared a poignant memory of a fellow Marine’s Zippo lighter inscription: “For those who have fought for it, freedom has a taste that the protected will never no.”
Los Angeles City Council member traci Park, representing the 11th district, was also honored for her work on veterans issues. Park, the daughter of a U.S. Army veteran, represents the Westside, including the West Los Angeles Veterans Governance medical Centre.
The American Legion Ronald Reagan Palisades Post 283 presented the inaugural Military & Veterans Entertainment Awards. True Religion Brand Jeans,SAG-AFTRA,Paramount Studios,New Dawn Treatment Centers,Heroes Linked,USS IOWA,Vet Stream TV,You matter Not Alone,and III Worlds Management supported and co-sponsored the event.
