Get Ready for a Blast: Shenzhen to Host Inaugural Greater Bay Area Animation and Video Game Festival 2024
2024 First Greater Bay Area Animation and Game Festival to be Held in Shenzhen
The “2024 First Greater Bay Area Animation and Game Festival” will take place in Halls 3 and 4 of Shenzhen Futian Convention and Exhibition Center from September 15th to 17th. This marks the first time in 25 years that the Hong Kong Animation and Game Festival has landed in Shenzhen.
The festival is guided by China Animation Group Co., Ltd. and co-organized by the Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen) Branch of the National Animation Creative Research and Development Center and the Hong Kong Animation and Game Festival Organizing Committee. Its aim is to create an international top-level animation and game digital creative brand event, drive the integrated development of animation creativity, digital technology, and cultural tourism industries in the Greater Bay Area, and enhance the strength and global influence of the Greater Bay Area’s animation digital creative industry.
The Hong Kong Anime & Video Games Festival, first held in 1999, is the second largest anime festival in Asia after the Tokyo International Anime Show. It is a large-scale anime event designated by leading domestic and foreign companies and the oldest large-scale anime cultural event in China. After more than 20 years of development, it has become a benchmark anime event with a wide influence covering people of all ages.
Liang Zhongben, executive president of the Hong Kong Animation Festival Organizing Committee, introduced that a new concept will be used to operate a “comic exhibition that Shenzhen has never had before”, focusing on “selective, international, and entertaining”. Hong Kong companies will “band together” to participate in the exhibition, showing the world’s high-end toys to comic fans.
Zhuang Deren, vice president of the Hong Kong Brand Toys Association, told reporters that a number of well-known Hong Kong toy companies have been organized to participate in the exhibition, aiming to showcase Hong Kong’s creative industry, further expand the mainland market, and enhance the overall competitiveness of Hong Kong’s brand toy industry.
The festival will feature exhibitors and performance guests from France, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and other countries. The world’s top trendy toy brands will also be gathered. In terms of entertainment, the festival will include the “Classic Anime Music Festival”, “Asia-Pacific Cosplay Carnival”, card competitions, e-sports exhibitions, and Mid-Autumn Festival Garden Parties.
The Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen) Branch of the National Animation Creative Research and Development Center was unveiled and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Animation Culture Association during the press conference.
The festival is expected to drive the integrated development of animation creativity, digital technology, and cultural tourism industries in the Greater Bay Area, and enhance the strength and global influence of the Greater Bay Area’s animation digital creative industry.
