Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades – A Turn-Based Tactical RPG
Game Overview
Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades is a turn-based tactical RPG where you lead a team of mercenaries across the harsh lands of Stormtossed Isle.
Choose one of many origin stories, or create your own and leave your mark on the world. Hire your team, train and arm them. How will your company operate? Will you prefer the traditional mercenary life, accepting contracts and slowly building your reputation? Will you focus on the lucrative trade opportunities on the island? Or maybe you’ll don the mantle of a full-fledged explorer, discovering and mapping the many dungeons and secrets on the map. Or, why not mix it all? One thing is for sure, though: this is going to be a dangerous and bloody journey, and you’d better prepare your company and be well prepared.
Gameplay Features
The world of Pathfinder: Wandering Blade consists of a procedurally generated world map filled with enemies, dungeons, towns, and secrets waiting to be discovered. Gather your team and roam the land in search of opportunity, riches, and bloody battles. Maintaining a mercenary group isn’t cheap, so you’ll have to earn some money on the way. Contracts, trading, looting, discovery, and theft will all serve you well on this one.
Combat is an important part of the gameplay and takes place on a tactical hexagonal grid in turn-based mode. Deploy up to 6 units, each with their own class and skill tree, and engage in battle against a variety of enemies bent on seeing your team lying face down in the dirt. Dungeon exploration is another important component in Pathfinder. Select an elite squad from your team and delve into the depths of the dungeon. Once inside, you’ll face traps, hidden paths, vicious enemies, and your dwindling oil reserves as you explore the darkness in the hopes of gaining treasure and prestige.
Key Features
Build Your Own Company
Build and customize your squad from 8 classes, each branching to 2 different advanced classes with their own skill trees. Mercenaries start with background traits and can learn new traits, adding an extra layer of customization.
Multiple Company Paths
Your company can build up reputation in three different areas: Mercenaries, Merchants, and Explorers. A high reputation brings new opportunities related to its area. Those who prove themselves can gain access to more contracts, trading options, and special commissions.
Procedurally Generated World
The campaign’s open world, dungeons, and most of the battle maps are procedurally generated, making each new playthrough a different experience. Nothing will be the same, which will keep you on your toes.
Multiple Origin Stories
Choose one of many origin stories, or create your own. Each origin character has their own custom plot and story events, with different strengths and weaknesses and different goals and objectives.
Interesting Enemies and Difficult Encounters
There are a large number of enemies in the game, from hostile mercenaries to multiple unique monster creatures. Enemies can use their own classes and skills, and knowing them will be the key difference between victory and grave.
Dynamic Events
Contracts and story events have multiple solutions and branching outcomes that will never be exactly the same from one playthrough to the next. You’ll be faced with some tough choices that will shape the image of your company.
Mod Support
Pathfinders is designed to be mod-friendly. The game features creative workshop support, a map editor, a spell editor, and data files that rely on easy-to-edit and understand json files, which facilitates adding classes, skills, and new languages.
