Get Ready for High-Octane Action: ‘Heavy Battle Machine L-Gaim’ Blasts onto Blu-ray for the First Time, Fully Remastered from the Original Master Negative Scan

The “Heavy Fighter L-Gaim” anime, which aired on TV for about a year starting in 1984, was released on Blu-ray for the first time to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its broadcast. It will be released on February 26, 2025 as a 10-disc BD box set containing all 54 episodes. The price is 74,800 yen.

Heavy Battle Machine L-Gaim is a work directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, which is the sequel to “Sacred Warrior Dunbine”. It’s a simple science fiction work that takes a turn from the fantasy path, and the giant robot that appears also has a “heavy metal” mechanical appearance, making it a work about real orthodox robots. Staff members still active today, such as Tomoken Kogawa and Mamoru Nagano, also participate.

For the first BD release, the HD remastering was done by scanning the master negative. It proclaims “the highest image quality in the history of operas”. The BD is a 10-disc set with a main story running time of 1,510 minutes. Audio is linear PCM and mono (some stereo).

Includes a soundtrack CD, which is currently difficult to obtain. A 5-CD set consisting of “TV Series BGM Collection Vol. 1-3”, “OVA Full Metal Soldier BGM Collection” and “Odyssey 1 & 2”. Bonus videos include non-telop OP&ED, episode 1 preview, program announcement, and product announcement. A 60-page explanation of the work is also included.

Furthermore, the BOX features a new illustration drawn by Mamoru Nagano, responsible for the character design and mechanics.

The first official book will also be released at the same time as the BD.

Along with the BD release of “Heavy Battle Machine L-Gaim”, it has been decided that the first official book of the series will also be released. It will be released on February 26, 2025, with 2 books of 288 color pages in A4 format. The price is 11,000 yen (made to order).

This is a set of two books, “Mk-1” and “Mk-2”, and “Mk-1”, which covers 40 years of history, includes a preliminary draft collection of designs (characters/mecha etc.) , copyright illustration gallery, Tomino Features new interviews with production staff including Yoshiyuki and Mamoru Nagano, story guide for all 54 episodes of the TV series, storyboards and original art collection, glossary, and more. The three-sided BOX illustration is a new art by Toshiyuki Kubooka (character design) and Morifumi Naka (mecha design).
