Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein, is preparing to petition for her release from Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, and intends to represent herself in the legal proceedings. This move follows the enactment of the Epstein Openness Act and a recent transfer from a Florida facility.

Maxwell was moved to the Texas facility after agreeing to an interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche earlier in 2024. Her attorney, David Oscar Markus, informed Judge Paul Engelmayer on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, of her intention to file a habeas corpus petition according to NBC News.

“In light of President Trump’s enactment of the Epstein Transparency Act, Ms. Maxwell is not opposing the government’s motion to unseal grand jury transcripts or amend the protective order,” Markus stated in the communication to Judge Engelmayer. The Epstein Transparency Act, signed into law on July 27, 2023, aims to make public records related to the Epstein case as detailed in H.R.2896.

Markus further explained, “Ms. Maxwell intends to file a habeas petition on her own behalf very shortly. If the grand jury materials from her case, which contain allegations that remain unverified and unproven, are released, it could severely compromise the integrity of any future proceedings.”
