Giant 11m Sea Worm Discovered in Taiwan’s Waters

Massive 11-Meter-Long Sea Creature Discovered in Taiwan

A remarkable find off the coast of New Taipei City, Taiwan has left divers astounded. Wang Chengru, an experienced diving instructor, recently captured an extraordinary video of a colossal sea creature during a dive near Ruifang District.

Measuring an astonishing 11 meters in length, the mysterious sea creature resembled a gigantic wild sea worm. Its unique appearance, featuring a stunningly long ponytail-like appendage, stunned Wang and his fellow divers.

Identified as an oarfish, this elusive fish typically inhabits the depths of the ocean, residing at depths ranging from 650 to 3300 feet. The oarfish is known for its ability to detect seismic activities, often surfacing when disturbances occur. However, sightings of these immense sea creatures are exceedingly rare, leaving Wang in awe of his unprecedented encounter.

“Despite diving for 15 years, I had never before witnessed such an enormous oarfish,” remarked Wang, emphasizing the sheer magnitude of the specimen he encountered. Speculating on its sudden appearance, he added, “It does not appear to be a response to any seismic activity.”

Scientists and marine experts are eagerly studying Wang’s remarkable footage, hoping to glean valuable insights into the behavior and habitat of these majestic sea creatures. The discovery of such a massive oarfish serves as an exciting reminder of the enchanting mysteries that lie beneath the ocean’s surface.

According to US Newsweek on the 17th, diving instructor Wang Chengru recently submitted a video of him enjoying swimming with fellow divers and big fish in the sea near Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan.

In the video, Wang Qingru and his colleagues showed a surprised expression after discovering a large wild sea urchin that reached about 11 meters in size. The ponytail in the video is similar to a regular ponytail in shape and color.

The fish in question is an oar. This fish lives in water at a depth of about 650 feet to 3300 feet (about 198 mi 1006 m). When an abnormal signal such as earth shaking is felt, it is first detected from the sea floor and rises to sea level, but it is known that it is rarely actually seen.

“I’ve been diving for 15 years, but I’ve never seen such a huge sea urchin,” Wang told Newsweek. He said, “It does not seem as if the mountain oar has come to the surface because of the earthquake.”
