This late-inning rally, marked by seven runs in the final two innings, showcased the teamS resilience and pushed them to a season-high 12 games ⁣over .500.

San Francisco, now 40-28, sits just a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the national League West standings. The Giants’ comeback win, their 20th of the season, broke a string of eight consecutive⁣ one-run games.

Trailing 6-3 in the eighth, the Giants loaded the bases before Schmitt walked to force in a run. Yastrzemski then doubled to tie the game. Tyler Fitzgerald’s safety⁢ squeeze allowed Schmitt to score the go-ahead run, a play that was⁣ overturned after a Giants’ challenge.

The Giants added three more runs in the ninth, highlighted by RBI singles from schmitt and ⁣Yastrzemski, providing crucial breathing room and snapping their streak of close games.

“Guys are stepping up, and they’re picking ⁣each other up where we need it,” left-hander Robbie Ray ‍said.

Schmitt, filling in for the injured Chapman, has ⁤excelled, going 4-for-8 with a home run⁢ and three RBIs ‍in his first two games. His defensive⁤ play at third base has also been noteworthy.

“It’s a great opportunity for him,” Melvin said. “He made ⁣a great play defensively. He’s got a real opportunity to do some good things while⁤ Chappy is out. We’re lucky to have him.”

“I knew instantly,” Schmitt said. “I felt like my hand was in there before I got‍ tagged.”

“Just a grindy ‍at-bat,” said Schmitt, who saw seven⁣ consecutive breaking balls from ‍Kinley before laying off a full-count fastball to earn his free pass⁣ and bring⁣ Yastrzemski to the plate. “I just went ‍in there trying not to think too much and just tried to battle. That was the only thing going in my head.Just get that run in any way possible and just battle.
