Angels Acquire LaMonte Wade Jr. for First Base,Outfield Role

Updated ⁤June ‍09,2025

The Los Angeles Angels bolstered their roster Sunday, acquiring veteran LaMonte Wade Jr. from the San Francisco Giants. The 31-year-old Wade, a first baseman and outfielder, was ⁣designated for assignment by san Francisco earlier in the week.

To make room for Wade, the Angels designated right-hander Michael Darrell-Hicks for assignment. The Angels will send either cash or a player to be named later to the Giants ⁣as part of the⁤ deal.

Wade, who joined the Giants in 2021, struggled this season, batting .167 with one home run and 15 RBIs. Last season, he hit a career-best .260 and became‌ known for delivering key hits in ‍late-game situations.

The Angels currently have⁤ Nolan Schanuel at first base and six outfielders on their major league roster. Some‍ players offer position flexibility, giving‌ manager ron Washington options.

Adding Wade provides the ‌Angels ⁤with needed depth at first base and in the outfield. The move also creates an engaging dynamic, as Angels general manager Perry Minasian and Giants general manager Zack Minasian are brothers.

What’s next

Wade is expected to ‍join the Angels quickly and could see playing time soon, providing a veteran presence as ⁢the team‌ navigates the season.
