Giovanni van Bronckhorst Praises Givairo Read and Feyenoord’s Recent Form

Feyenoord technical director Rigaux rejected a transfer bid for defender Givairo Read, a decision made to help narrow the gap with PSV, as reported by NRC. The twenty-year-old right-back has cemented his status as a pillar under coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who praised the defender’s physical progression following a match against AZ where Read recorded six ball recoveries and four successful dribbles.

Feyenoord Rejects Transfer Bid for Read

Feyenoord turned down an offer of 26 million euros from Italian club AS Roma for Read during the recent transfer window, according to reporting from NRC. Technical leadership viewed retaining the youth product as a priority to close the sporting gap with PSV after observing a lack of resilience in difficult phases during previous campaigns.

Read has established himself as a starter for the third season and serves as vice-captain for the Rotterdam club. ESPN.nl reported that his consistent club form earned him the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month award for September, a recognition the defender acknowledged proudly.

Van Bronckhorst Evaluates Physical Progress

Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst highlighted the physical strides Read has made after playing a heavy schedule of matches. Fr12.nl reported that the manager pointed to the defender’s improved strength and fitness as the primary gain of the season compared to previous years.

Als je dat vergelijkt met vorig jaar, dan is dat de grootste winst voor hem dit seizoen. Hij staat met beide benen op de grond en werkt hard.

During the fixture against AZ, Read contributed heavily to the attacking phases through overlapping runs and defensive interventions, including blocking a shot from Mateo Chávez and stopping an attempt by Ayoub Oufkir, as documented by NRC. Van Bronckhorst noted that Read’s ability to remain calm on the ball helps the team establish an advantage in midfield.

Valente Adds Attacking Dimensions

Midfielder Luciano Valente also received praise from the coaching staff following a precise through ball that nearly resulted in a goal for Read during the first half against AZ. Headliner.nl noted that Van Bronckhorst emphasized the team’s regular training on such passing patterns to diversify their attacking threats.

Regarding Valente’s position on the pitch, Van Bronckhorst stated that the player performs well as a left winger and must maintain his current level of performance to attract attention from national team coach Xavi, regardless of whether he features on the wing or in central midfield.

Upcoming Schedule and Squad Status

Feyenoord continues its domestic campaign following a September in which the team scored 15 goals and conceded only one in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie, contrasted by a 5-1 defeat against FC Barcelona in the Champions League. ESPN.nl reported that the squad views the European fixture as valuable experience regarding the technical details required at the highest level.

Read maintains that physical recovery remains essential as the club prepares for upcoming fixtures across domestic and European competitions, having played 20 total matches during an injury-disrupted previous season.
