The iconic song ‘Gee’ by Girls’ Generation, often hailed as the ‘national girl group’, has claimed the top spot on Rolling Stone’s prestigious list of the 100 greatest songs in K-pop history.

According to the renowned American music magazine, Rolling Stone, Girls’ Generation’s ‘Gee’ secured the number one position on their curated list of the most influential K-pop songs. Following closely behind is HOT’s ‘Candy’, triumphantly grabbing the second spot.

This esteemed list also includes outstanding tracks like IU’s “Good Day,” BTS’s “Spring Day,” and Cho Yong-pil’s “Short Hair” in the top 5.

Rolling Stone describes “Gee” as “a powerful demonstration of how popular music can effectively convey the euphoria of love.”

It is worth noting that Cho Yong-pil, acclaimed as the ‘King of Singer’ and the highest-ranked non-idol group musician, received praise for his revolutionary pop style that enabled listeners to escape the melancholy associated with the 5-note trot scale.

Out of the 100 songs featured on the list, SM Entertainment boasted the most entries, with 14 songs, including ‘Gee’ and ‘Candy’.

Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation made a resounding comeback in August of last year with their 7th studio album, ‘Forever 1’, commemorating their remarkable 15-year journey in the music industry.
