Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Opens Doors to Younger Volunteers
Glasgow, Scotland – In a move aimed at fostering community engagement and providing opportunities for young people, organizers of the 2026 Commonwealth Games have lowered the minimum age for volunteers from 18 to 16. This decision marks a notable shift from previous Games, including Glasgow’s own hosting in 2014,and reflects a commitment to inclusivity and youth empowerment.
Applications for volunteer positions will open next week, wiht thousands of individuals expected to contribute to the event’s success. The Games, scheduled from July 23 to August 2, will feature 10 sports and six para sports held across four venues.
While the 2026 edition will be smaller than the 2014 Games, which recruited around 16,000 volunteers, the need for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals remains crucial. Glasgow stepped in to host the Games in September of last year, offering a rescue package after Victoria,Australia, withdrew.

With the inclusion of younger volunteers, the Games will not only showcase world-class sporting talent but also empower the next generation of community leaders.
