Chinese Youths Shine in 47th WorldSkills Competition

The 47th WorldSkills Competition was held at the European Convention and Exhibition Center in eastern Lyon, France. The Chinese delegation won 36 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 4 bronze medals, and 8 bronze awards, coming first in the gold medal list, medal list, and total team score.
WorldSkills Competition: A Platform for Vocational Skills
The WorldSkills Competition is held every two years and is the most prestigious vocational skills competition globally. It provides a platform for displaying and exchanging vocational skills.
Competition Areas and Events
The competition featured 59 areas distributed in a fan shape, covering various events such as hairdressing, chemistry laboratory technology, and information network cabling.
Gold Medal Winners Share Their Experiences
Lu Jingyi, a student from Henan Chemical Technician College, won the gold medal in the chemical laboratory technology project. She spent less than 15 days at home in the past two years, focusing on preparing for the competition.
Li Hongyu, 19, from Tianjin, won a gold medal in the information network cabling event, breaking the 17-year gold medal “monopoly” held by Japanese players in this event.
Zhou Yuxin, who won the gold medal in the logistics and shipping project, emphasized the importance of team support in addition to personal efforts.
Industry 4.0 Contestants Win “Albert Vidal” Award
Lu Junwei and Xie Huixuan won the “Albert Vidal” award with the highest score in the World Skills Competition. This is the second time Chinese contestants have won this award.
Industry 4.0 refers to the automation and intelligence of the production process through intelligent manufacturing, the Internet of Things, and big data analysis.
Xie Huixuan described his close cooperation with competition partner Lu Junwei and the team, saying, “In the face of pressure, there will be psychological teachers to guide us; the expert team leader will explain the rules and procedures of the competition in detail to us before the game.”
Lu Junwei’s perception of this award reflects the value that the WorldSkills Competition hopes to highlight: “I think this award is a recognition of the spirit of craftsmanship. Through years of relentless training, we can refine a product or project and show a professional spirit.”
