Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York on September 27 (local time).
Wang emphasized that under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, China-US relations have made progress amidst twists and turns, and that this should be cherished as it is not easy to achieve. He stated that stopping the decline and regaining stability in China-US relations serves the interests of the people of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.
Wang pointed out that the biggest danger in the current situation in the Taiwan Strait is the increasingly unruly “Taiwan independence” actions of Lai Qingde and the like. He emphasized that if the United States truly wants peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, it must adhere to the “one China” principle and the three major joint statements, stop arming Taiwan, openly oppose ‘Taiwan independence’, and support the peaceful unification of China.
Wang also stated that China resolutely opposes the United States’ suppression of China’s economy, trade, and science and technology. He emphasized that national security should not be pan-politicized and that this should not happen.
Regarding the South China Sea issue, Wang explained that China emphasizes resolving differences through direct dialogue and negotiations with the parties concerned. He stated that the United States should not make a fuss in the South China Sea and maintain peace and stability in the region, and that efforts by regional countries to protect their interests should not be undermined.
Wang emphasized that China’s position on the Ukraine issue is fair and impartial, and that it is making efforts to promote a political solution while consistently recommending reconciliation and promoting negotiations. He also stated that the United States must stop slandering China and abusing sanctions, and stop using this as an excuse to instigate confrontation and encourage factional confrontation.
