GOG.com Adds DRM-Free Versions of Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 to Preservation Program

On April 23, 2026, two classic titles from Square Enix’s SaGa series, Romancing SaGa 2 and Romancing SaGa 3, became available for purchase on GOG.com as DRM-free releases under the GOG Preservation Program. This marks the first time these games have been officially offered in Western markets without digital rights management restrictions.

The releases are part of a broader launch that includes SaGa Frontier Remastered and SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions, all of which are now accessible on GOG.com with launch discounts applied. According to the announcement, Romancing SaGa 2 and Romancing SaGa 3 are each offered at 70 percent off during the promotional period, which runs until May 4, 2026. SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is also discounted at 70 percent, while SaGa Frontier Remastered is available at 50 percent off.

GOG confirmed that all four titles have been updated to support modern controllers and are optimized to run on contemporary systems as part of the GOG Preservation Program. This initiative ensures that older games are maintained for long-term compatibility, including verification for Windows 11 and ongoing technical support. The platform emphasizes that these versions are DRM-free, requiring no activation or persistent online connection to play.

Romancing SaGa 3 was originally released in Japan in 1995 and developed by industry veterans including Akitoshi Kawazu. The GOG version features an HD remaster with optimized graphics, a new dungeon, additional scenarios and a New Game+ mode. Similarly, Romancing SaGa 2 has been restored to meet current technical standards while preserving its original gameplay and presentation.

The games are listed on GOG.com with their respective genres and themes, including role-playing, adventure, fantasy, and story-rich narratives.
