Gokulam Kerala FC Emerges Victorious in I-League Football Match Against Delhi FC: Match Recap

Shree Bhaini Sahib (Punjab): Gokulam Kerala FC won the I-League football match against Delhi FC by 2-1. Gokulam hit back in the last ten minutes of the match at the Namdhari Stadium in Sri Bhaini Sahib.

With five consecutive wins, the distance between Gokulam and first place Muhammadan has narrowed. Muhammadan are at the top with 34 points from 15 matches. Gokulam scored 29 points from as many games. They won eight games during the season. They lost two games and tied five games.

Delhi, who lost to Gokulam, are in eighth place with 19 points from 14 matches. They lost after five games. Gokulam scored all three goals against Delhi. Captain Alex Sanchez and Laliansanga Renthei scored one goal each. Counting Delhi was Nidin Krishna’s own goal. Delhi’s attack was seen in the first half. The ball was in the Gokulam box for a long time.

There was little progress from the Gokulam side except for Alex Sanchez’s thunderbolt in the third minute which flew over the Delhi goal post. Senegal Captain Pape Ghazamma mastered Delhi’s attacks. In the 15th minute, Pape’s throw ball was connected with Jivsar Goyari and Gokulam goalkeeper Avilash Paul made a good save. Minutes later Pape’s free kick from 30 yards flew inches over the crossbar.

Bali Gagandeep’s lightning header was blocked by Avilash Paul. An own goal fell in the last minute of the first half. Gokulam defender Nidhi missed a header to challenge Pape Gasamma’s corner kick. The deflected ball crossed its own goal circle. Gokulam came close to the goal. The Gokulam players demanded a penalty for Vinil Pujari’s foul on Alex Sanchez who entered the box, but referee Prateek Mandal did not concede.

Gokulam’s Nikola Stoyannikov and Delhi’s Alishar Kholmurodov left the field due to injuries. Basit Ahmed Bhatt replaced Stoyannikov and Alishar was replaced by Gurtej Singh.

From the start of the second half, under the guidance of Sanchez, Gokulam was constantly entering the Delhi box but could not find the target. Sanchez headed Vikas’ long throw but goalkeeper Naveen Kumar made a brilliant save to keep out the goal. Sanchez’s two left-footed strikes boosted Delhi’s defense but failed to score.

The tie was scored with five minutes remaining in the game. Handball by Gurjet in the penalty area. The referee did not hesitate to award a penalty in favor of Gokulam. Sanchez’s kick was safely inside the left corner of the post. Before the kick was taken, one of the Gokulam players entered the box and had to be taken again.

Gokulam’s hero did not make a mistake. This is Alex Sanchez’s 15th goal of the season. With that, he became the top scorer of the league season. The goal that sealed the victory came in the third minute of injury time.

In the 77th minute, substitute Laliansanga Renthei scored the goal. PN Naufal sent a cross into the Delhi box and Laliansangha Renthei headed it into the net. It was the star’s first goal for Gokulam.

In another match yesterday, Srinidhi Deccan beat Aizawl FC 5-1. Ibrahim Sissoko scored a brace for Srinidhi in the match against Aizawl at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.

David Castaneda Munzo, Eli Sabia and Brandon VanLaredika each scored a goal. Joe Zoharliana scored a goal for Aizawl. Lalthankuma Aizawl c. Duela was red carded and out.
