Google AI Edge Gallery Lets Users Run AI Models on Phones
Updated June 02, 2025
Google has introduced the AI Edge Gallery, an Android application that enables users to run artificial intelligence (AI) models directly on their smartphones. According to TechCrunch, the app, which will eventually be available on iOS, allows users to download and operate AI models from platforms like Hugging Face.
The AI Edge Gallery facilitates tasks such as image generation, question answering, and code editing without requiring an internet connection. This offline capability addresses concerns about data privacy and accessibility, as users can avoid sending sensitive information to remote data centers or relying on Wi-Fi or cellular connections.
Google cautions that performance may vary depending on the device. Newer phones with more powerful processors will run models faster. Larger models take longer to complete tasks than smaller ones.
David Hunter, CEO of Local Falcon, an SEO analytics company, noted that Google’s AI Overviews and AI mode are changing search engine optimization (SEO). He said Google’s AI now analyzes queries using large language models to provide conversational results based on contextual understanding of user intent.
It is fundamentally changing the search engine optimization universe. It’s not just a little algorithm update. … the concept of being visible in a search engine is changing dramatically.
Hunter added that brands need to write good content that has conversational relevance and offer proof that “you know what you’re talking about.”
What’s next
The AI Edge Gallery app is poised to expand access to AI functionalities on mobile devices, while Google’s evolving AI search technologies will continue to reshape SEO strategies for businesses.
