[디지털투데이 AI리포터] The Verge reported on the 30th (local time) that Google will use a Qualcomm chip, not Samsung, to extend its battery life in its own smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 2.

The Pixel Watch 2, expected to be released this year, will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Plus. However, it is not known if the battery performance of Qualcomm W5 Plus is reliable.

Google’s first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, focused on performance rather than battery life, so it used Samsung’s 10-nm Exynos 9110 process-based chip.

As the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra lasts for several days, the battery life of smartwatches becomes more important.

The Pixel Watch 2 is expected to have a sensor similar to the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch, and it is evaluated that battery consumption can be faster when adding a health tracking sensor.

Google announced at its I/O 2023 conference that Wear OS 4 will be released this fall and will include extended battery life and cloud support.
