Google Wallet Location Detailed Receipts
Google Wallet Receipts Now Show Location on a Map – If You enable It
Table of Contents
Google Wallet is getting a helpful upgrade: receipts can now display the location where you made a purchase on a map. This feature, rolling out now, adds a visual element to your spending history, making it easier to remember where you spent your money. However, you’ll need to actively enable location permissions for it to work.Let’s dive into how it functions and what you need to know.
How to See Location on Google Wallet Receipts
Google Wallet is now requesting access to your “Precise location” while the app is in use. If you grant this permission, recent receipts will display a small map showing the purchase location.
Here’s how to set it up:
- Tap “Set up location settings” when prompted within the Google Wallet app.
- Enable the ”precise location” permission “While using the app” in your phone’s settings.
- Select a card and open your most recent receipt to start the process.

Currently, enabling location only applies to new transactions. Past transactions without location data won’t retroactively populate with a map after you grant the permission. This means you might miss out on location data for your most recent purchases if you haven’t enabled the setting yet.
Privacy Considerations & Why This Matters
Asking for explicit location permission is a positive step for user privacy. it puts you in control of what data you share with Google Wallet. Many users appreciate knowing exactly where their money is going, and a visual map can be a helpful memory aid.
Ideally, Google would proactively notify users about this feature and encourage them to enable location settings before they start missing out on the map view for their purchases. However, the current implementation still offers a valuable benefit for those who prioritize detailed spending tracking.
