Palakkad: Former Palakkad DCC president AV Gopinath, who resigned from the Congress, met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The meeting was held at Palakkad KSEB IB. Gopinath said he was invited to an official function in the panchayat and did not want to see political dimension.
Former Alathur MLA AV Gopinath resigned as a primary member of the Congress in August following protests over the DCC presidency list. Gopinath had also praised Pinarayi at the press conference announcing his resignation. He said that he was proud to be Pinarayi’s cook and that he was proud to be Pinarayi’s shoemaker.
He had stated at the time that his resignation was due to fears that it would hinder the growth of the Congress and that he did not want to join any party at present. But there were indications that he would return to Congress. Gopinath was present all the time at the K. Karunakaran memorial function organized by the Peringottukurissi Constituency Congress Committee in December.
Gopinath was the chairman of Peringottukurissi panchayat for 43 years. After Gopinath’s resignation, the Congress leadership in Peringottukurichi was partially absent from official functions. However, Gopinath said that he had attended the function at the request of the activists and should not see it as his return.
