About 3,000 medical school professors have petitioned the court to stop the government’s policy of expanding admissions to medical schools.

The National Association of Medical School Professors, an organization of 40 medical school professors across the country, announced on the afternoon of the 9th that it had submitted a petition signed by 2,997 medical school professors to the 7th Administrative Division of the Seoul High Court.

In a statement, the Korea Medical Association said: “A reckless increase in the number of medical school students will lead to the decline of the medical field in our country, which is recognized by many as an advanced country in the medical field, and the burden and the harmful effects will fall directly on the population.” “As a glimmer of hope, the High Court’s decision to limit medical school quotas “We have received a petition requesting a suspension of the implementation of staff increases,” has said.

In its petition, the Korea Medical Association pointed out that the government’s process of expanding medical schools violated the Higher Education Law and was hastily pushed through without on-site investigation.

Furthermore, the government stated that there were no minutes of meetings of the Health and Medical Policy Deliberation Committee (Review of Review) and the Affiliated Medical Workforce Professional Committee, adding that this was a violation of public records management laws.

The government’s thesis is different. The Ministry of Health and Welfare has prepared and preserved the minutes of the medical professionals’ review and human resources committee meetings, and announced that it will submit the meeting minutes and other related materials to the court by the 10th.

Meanwhile, lawyer Lee Byeong-cheol, representative of the Korean Council for Korean Medicine, announced to the Corruption Investigation Bureau that day that he had filed a complaint against North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Young-hwan and Director of Health and Welfare of the Chungbuk Provincial Office Choi Seung-hwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Joo-ho and Vice Minister of Education Oh Seok-hwan on charges of obstruction of official duties through the hierarchy.

Lawyer Lee said: “Despite the fact that the director of health and welfare of Chungbuk Provincial Office, who is an interested party, should not participate in the Ministry of Education’s allocation committee, a meeting held at the ‘Korean Educational Facilities Safety Institute on March 15 was held with the aim of increasing the admission quota for Chungbuk National University Medical School from 49 to 200. “We had Choi Seung-hwan, director of health and welfare of the provincial office of North Chungcheong Province, present at the allocation committee meeting,” has “As a hierarchy, interfered with the performance of official functions by public officials in charge of the work of the allocation committee.”

In response to this, an official from North Chungcheong Province said, “We do not have the position to express or convey this matter to the level of North Chungcheong Province by unifying the response channel to the Ministry of Education.”
