Government Implements Measures to Stabilize Prices of Agricultural and Marine Products

Determining the prices of agricultural and marine products is not easy.

The government has decided to import 7 types of cabbage, grapes, seaweed, etc. at a cheaper price by applying tariff quotas.

The government plans to release 5,000 tonnes of fishery products it has been storing into the market to stabilize prices.

The government held an emergency economic sub-ministerial meeting and a sub-ministerial meeting on price relations this morning and explained measures for price stability.

First, they announced that starting today, they will increase supply by applying new tariff quotas with lower tariff rates to seven types of agricultural and marine products.

The tariff quota for each item includes all imports of cabbage, grapes, and cocoa beans, 6,000 tons of cabbage, 40,000 tons of carrots, 700 tons of dried seaweed, and 125 tons of seasoned seaweed.

In order to stabilize shopping cart prices, 110 tonnes of cabbage and 80 tonnes of radishes will be released from government reserves every day this month.

The government also announced that it plans to import more than 35,000 tons of directly imported fruits such as bananas, kiwis, and cherries this month and next month.

In particular, in order to stabilize the price of seaweed, which has almost doubled, we decided to increase the supply.

In addition, in response to the cold season when the production of large fish species decreases, measures were also announced to stabilize the price of fishery products.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that 5,000 tonnes of the government’s stockpiles of six species of widely consumed fish will be released to the market from today until the middle of next month.

A number by species of fish includes 3,000 tonnes of pollack, 900 tonnes of knife fish, 700 tonnes of mackerel, 330 tonnes of squid, 130 tonnes of sea bream, and 20 tonnes of dried anchovies.

In addition, discount events for seafood items are being held in major supermarkets and online centers across the country, and it has been announced that customers can buy them at prices up to 50% lower until the middle of this month.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it will continue to stabilize seafood prices through more supply and discount events.
