The government has decided to send additional emergency medical personnel in response to the collective action by medical school professors.

They also announced plans to double the rate for vascular stent procedures while strengthening compensation for essential medical care.

Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong said at a meeting of the Central Headquarters for Security and Disaster Countermeasures (CDC) for the doctors’ class action chaired at the Sejong Government Complex on the 29th: “We will monitor from close the situation at the medical camp complex to prevent any harm to patients due to the sudden resignation or termination of medical faculty professors.” “We will further strengthen the emergency medical care system, including sending additional medical personnel,” he has declared.

Minister Cho said: “When professors protect the camp and residents return to the hospital and are with patients, the public will take your voice more seriously.” He added: “Medical groups should not simply insist on abolishing the number of medical schools that do this.” not meet public expectations, but also support our country’s medical care.” “I hope that you will quickly participate in the dialogue for innovation and development of the system,” he underlined.

He said: “The collective action by residents has lasted more than two months and has already reached the end of April.” He added: “I hope once again that residents will be back alongside patients as soon as possible.” “Many people hope that you will stop taking collective action and return to engaging in dialogue,” she added.

He stressed: “The government only looks at the people and is pursuing medical reform to save essential and local medical care,” and added: “We will move forward firmly by communicating and cooperating more with all walks of life.”

On the same day, the government also announced a plan to strengthen compensation for interventional procedures for serious heart disease.

Cardiovascular intervention is a representative essential medical procedure that must be performed urgently for patients with severe heart disease, such as acute myocardial infarction.

The government has decided to expand the number of blood vessels recognized for cardiovascular surgery and increase the level of compensation so that medical difficulties and resource consumption can be reasonably reflected in the price.

For example, if stent insertion surgery is performed on four blood vessels at a tertiary general hospital, the cost of the procedure will increase more than double the current price.

We plan to broaden the scope of “emergency procedures,” which are charged 1.5 times that of general procedures, to suit clinical sites so that medical personnel who frequently perform emergency and emergency procedures guard can receive fair compensation.
