Ferraiuoli withdraws Nomination for Puerto rico Secretary of State
Verónica Ferraiuoli Hornedo, teh designated Secretary of State of puerto Rico, has requested Gov. Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon to withdraw her nomination as the Puerto Rico Senate prepared to vote on her appointment.
Governor Acknowledges Ferraiuoli’s Request
In a written statement, Gov. Gonzalez Colon acknowledged Ferraiuoli’s request. “I reaffirm the quality of professional and human being who is the Veronica Ferraiuoli graduate and in that there is nothing to disqualify her to be confirmed as Secretary of State,” the governor stated.
“Just as I am grateful for all your work during the past months and your detachment for me and this administration by requesting the withdrawal of your appointment. Thank you Veronica for your service to the peopel from state!” González concluded.
Undersecretary to Maintain Department Operations
Narel Colón de Rivera, currently serving as Undersecretary of State, will remain in her position within the State Department until a new nomination is made, according to reports.
Senate Opposition
Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz indicated in a radio interview last Thursday that Ferraiuoli did not have sufficient votes for confirmation.
Sen. Juan Oscar Morales Rodríguez, who chairs both the Health Commission and the Senate ethics Commission, echoed this sentiment. He stated that he anticipated the nominee would not receive the Senate’s approval.
