Vizhinjam International Port witnessed a momentous occasion as the Shenhua 15 PMC Shanghai ship from China arrived, marking the port’s first ship docking. The much-awaited event was graced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who warmly welcomed the vessel by waving the flag. The ship was greeted with a remarkable water salute and carefully guided towards the anchorage.

Under the capable guidance of Minister of Ports Ahmed Devarkov, a prestigious conference commenced to celebrate this significant milestone. The chief guest for the occasion was Union Minister for Shipping, Waterways, and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal.

Dignitaries like Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan, Department of Labor Public Education V Sivankutty, Minister of Revenue Department and Member of the Board of Directors of Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited K Rajan, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan, Shashi Tharoor MP, M Vincent MLA, Mayor Arya Rajendran, Chief Secretary Dr. V Venu, Chief Secretary Port Department KS Srinivas, Adani Vizhinjam Port Limited Chairman Karan Adani, CEO Adani Vizhinjam Port Company Rajesh Jha, and many others also graced the occasion.

The event, which can accommodate 3500 people, was set up in a pandal-like structure, providing ample seating for the attendees.

The first ship arrived and three cranes were needed for the port. On August 30, the ship left China and reached the Mundra coast in Gujarat and from here it would have left for Vizhinja. On the 12th of this month, the ship reached the Vizhinjam project area at 8:30 in the morning. The ship was then anchored 12 km away from the coast.
