Inaugural Entertainment announced on May 12 that the Green Day-inspired comedy feature Nimrods
is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14.
The film, which is produced by Live Nation Studios, is a coming-of-age story that centers on three high school friends. The plot follows the trio as they embark on a road trip based on the mistaken belief that their new band has been booked to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.
According to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter, the narrative is rooted in the real-life experiences of Green Day. The film draws inspiration from the band’s own adventures while living in a van before the release of their 1994 major label debut album, Dookie
. That album subsequently won a Grammy Award and has since been certified as double-diamond.
The movie features a wide ensemble cast, including Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, and Billie Joe Armstrong. The production also includes performances by Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee, and Fred Armisen.
Additional cast members listed for the production include:
- Kylr Coffman
- Ryan Foust
- Ignacio Diaz-Silverio
- Keen Ruffalo
The project has undergone a title change prior to its wide release. It was previously known as New Years Rev
during its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
In conjunction with the release date announcement, Inaugural Entertainment revealed a partnership with Legion M, a fan-owned entertainment company. This partnership integrates a community-funding element into the film’s business model through the Legion M Film Fund.
The Legion M Film Fund allows fans to invest directly in the financing of the marketing and distribution for Nimrods
, as well as other titles. This funding model was previously utilized for the comedy Fackham Hall
, which was co-released by Legion M and Bleecker Street.
The August 14 release date has been confirmed across multiple industry channels, including listings from AMC Theaters and reporting from Variety.
