Bahraini Companies Excel in Environmental Excellence

The Independent Supreme Committee for the “Al-Bilad Shield for Corporate Social Responsibility” initiative has reviewed the outstanding achievements of major companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain, particularly those in the field of heavy industries and energy. The committee assessed the companies’ plans and programs related to sustainable energy for the next few years.

Commitment to Environmental Excellence

Dr. Hassan Ibrahim Kamal, Chairman of the Independent Supreme Committee, stated that the technical team and audit committee are examining and analyzing the data provided by the companies. He emphasized that the number of participants in this initiative has doubled, with 57 Bahraini companies participating in the third edition. This significant increase demonstrates the commitment of Bahraini companies to corporate social responsibility values and principles.

Renewable Energy and Environmental Initiatives

Dr. Kamal highlighted that Bahraini companies are playing a crucial role in fulfilling the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to remedy environmental impacts and reduce their severity. The companies’ commitment to environmental initiatives and renewable energy is also supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

National Efforts and Energy Strategy

Bahraini companies are contributing to the national efforts undertaken by the Supreme Council for the Environment, led by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Ministry of Oil and the Environment, led by Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dinah, is also working towards implementing Bahrain’s National Energy Strategy. This strategy aims to improve environmental security and achieve the climate goals announced by the Kingdom at the Twenty-Sixth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

Achievements in Clean Energy

A notable example of a company’s achievements in clean energy is Bahrain Aluminum “Alba”. Since its activity in Bahrain in 2018, the company has produced 52 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy. This has enabled the company to meet the needs of many organizations in the Kingdom, including 3 factories, 20% of the needs of Bahrain City Center Mall, and 50% of the needs of Bahrain Mall.

Reducing Carbon Emissions

The company’s efforts have also led to a significant reduction in carbon emissions, with a total reduction of 484 thousand metric tons. Bahrain Aluminum “Alba” won the Environmental Excellence Shield in the second edition of the initiative in September 2023.

Announcing the Winner

The team involved in the initiative will continue to follow up on the achievements of the companies and their progress, leading to the announcement of the winner of the “Al-Bilad” Shield of Environmental Excellence.
